The New Era of Big 4 Transparency is Here! ✨

I’ve been quiet for the last few months, and for a good reason.
I’ve been heads down building something pretty special...
If you haven't heard much from me in a while, I promise it wasn't because I was slacking. Quite the opposite, I've had my head down for months building something I've wanted to give you for a long time.
Today it's finally live: a complete, ground-up rebuild of Big 4 Transparency.
A little context before I get into what's new. I started this site about four and a half years ago. I'm a CPA, not a developer, and I taught myself how to build it because none of us had a straight answer to a pretty basic question: am I being paid fairly?
Since then, you've submitted over 22,000 salaries, helped me advocate for our profession at conferences, and even helped get us cited in our first academic paper (with more on the way).
Here's the honest truth: while I was busy cleaning data and getting insights out to you, the product itself didn't keep up the way it should have. The old tech stack made every new feature a slog. So I hit a point where I decided to stop patching and rebuild the whole thing properly.
Here's what's new:
Instant salary rankings: submit your comp and immediately see how you stack up against other submissions that are most relevant to yours
Data visualization tools, unlocked: sharing your salary unlocks 12 months of visualization features
Better data quality built into how every submission is handled going forward
A brand new customer portal which will be rolling out to subscribed firms in July, unlocking capabilities beyond what anyone has ever asked for
A foundation I can actually build on; the part I'm most excited about
See where you stand, instantly
When you submit your salary now, you'll get an immediate read on how it ranks. No waiting, no guessing. This is the feature I most wished existed when I was an analyst trying to figure out if my offer was any good.
Submit your comp and you'll unlock a set of data visualization tools for the next 12 months. The whole site runs on the generosity of people willing to share, and this is my way of making that exchange feel as worthwhile as it should.
The part you can't see (but will feel)
The biggest change isn't a single feature, it's the new tech stack underneath it all. For years, building anything new took forever. That's over because I’ve rebuilt the entire foundation this thing sits on (and learned a few new things in the process) so I can now ship fixes and roll out features faster than I ever could before. This is genuinely the start of a new era for the site.
I want to be upfront: this isn't the finished product. But damn is it already so much better than the previous version. I built it for you, and I want your input on where it goes next. If something's broken, missing, or just annoying, tell me. I read everything.
What's coming next
A couple of things I'm working on that I think you'll like:
A talent review webinar: review season is around the corner, and I want to help you walk in prepared and walk out with more
II’m looking into CPE: I have 105 podcast episodes released with some of the most interesting people in the industry, and I’m actively exploring how I can start giving you CPE credits for tuning in.
This site has only ever worked because of you. Thank you for sticking with me through the quiet stretch, I think you'll agree it was worth it. I'm more optimistic than I've ever been about how much more useful this thing can become, and we're just getting started.
